S.I.R. No. 172

MONTHLY DIARY - SINAI MUDIRIA, NOVEMBER 1908

Works - Work was continued on the Themed Post and on the interior buildings of the Fort Nekhl.

Work was also continued on two walls in the neighbourhood of Mashash El Kuntilla, but so far without success as regards water.

Frontier Pillars numbers 8 to 13 are reported as in need of repair, the sand having beer blown away from round them so as to endanger their ability. It is hoped to undertake the necessary repairs early in the new year.

Telephones. - The Nekhl-Themed telephone line, commenced on the 29th October, was completed on the 23rd November. It is 62½ kilometers in length. The extension to Kuntilla now depends on the finding of a satisfactory water supply there. In this connection it may be of interest to mention that the month of an old maeoury well has been discovered borne 12 miles east of Themed, on the Akaba road. It is hoped to make an attempt to open this up next year.

Moves - Mudir proceeded on inspection duty on the 15th to Jifjafa and Jebel Maghara, and thence to El Arish, arriving there on the 24th.

          Health - Generally good

Doctor Stirling, of the C.M.S., Ghazza, visited El Arish at the end of the month. Few patients applied to him for treatment. As a rule his visits are entirely taken up with operations, & c.
